Blue/Red Ocean Strategy

By conducting extensive research, I have found that location, wait times, types of insurance accepted, reputation, and overall service are the most important competitive factors when choosing an ER. In a time of urgency, location is really important. Timing is vital when dealing with health. The wait time is extremely important because no one wants to wait to be seen by a physician in a time of need especially if they may have other obligations to tend to. Insurance acceptance is important because some hospitals have the right to not see you because of the type of insurance you have. Public hospitals cannot refuse service. While, a private hospital can. Reputation is important because it makes one facility more appealing than another. And overall service is important because it will determine whether a patient will return to the facility or not. The data that I have retrieved has come from reviews, ratings, and surveys for each facility.

The innovative factors that I created were electronic registration, patient boarding, and mobile apps. With electronic registration, it allows a patient to work at their own pace. And it gives them the oppurtunity to impute their own personal information rather than orally presenting it. Electronic registration can reduce wait times tremendously. Patient boarding is always a problem in emergency rooms. Sometimes, the patient flow is heavy because there isn't any beds available for patients who are waiting. Money should be invested to improve patient boarding. It could be purchasing more hospital beds or building a room where physicians are able to see multiple patients at a time. A mobile app can be used to not only track wait times but to allow patients to see where they stand on a waiting list. It can also be used to communicate with healthcare professionals to voice concerns or questioins on their smart phones.
